"Single Ladies" Berry Crumble

You'll need
Butter
Oats
Sugar
Frozen berries
Cinnamon

Equip yourself with
Microwave safe ramekin
Microwave safe bowl
Spoon

First things first
Please do yourself a favour and click here. This shall be your theme song while you get your crumble on.

Cream the butter and sugar together. If your butter is not already at room temp, melt it in the microwave for ten second intervals. Once it's manageable, cream it together with about 1.5 teaspoons of sugar.

Add the oats. Just kinda eyeball this. Consider the circumference of the ramekin you're using and how much you love the crumble part of berry crumble. Now's the time to add a pinch of cinnamon.

Defrost the berries. Add enough berries to line the ramekin and then just zap 'em in the microwave for about a minute.

Cover the berries with the oat mixture. By now the berries should be just defrosted enough to be squishy. I like to hack 'em up just a little bit if they're pretty large. Then spoon on the oat mixture.

Cook it! Give it about a minute in the microwave.

Don't eat it right away! Because microwaves can be a little sketch with heat distribution, test your patience by letting it sit for a minute or so.

Now eat it! And enjoy it.

Let me know if you have any success or have any changes you'd make to this simple recipe!

4 Reasons Why 2003 Ruined My Life

I met Seth Cohen.
I remember hearing about The OC before it aired. Probably in a teen magazine or something. Anyway, I fully expected to fall in love with the bad boy lead character but ah, the blissful ignorance of a young teen. Why, you ask? Because on a fateful August in 2003 evening, I met Seth Cohen. Nothing has been the same. My love of Chrismukkah, Death Cab for Cutie, and wishing that I could be Summer Roberts. His loyalty to his friends was only exceeded by his loyalty to Captain Oats. But perhaps the worst thing about Seth Cohen is that despite any of his social ineptitude, he's still perfectly capable of a huge, sweeping, romantic gesture. The kiss on the coffee cart alone is just cause to blame him for my broken reality radar. Apparently Adam Brody is now marrying Leighton Meester which is weird on so many cross-fandom levels, but I say go for it. Be happy. I'll just be here in the corner eating my feelings.
Verdict: One skipped heartbeat away from killing me. After all, "It's always been you."

To be that video game controller...
The video "This Love" came out.
Right, so by now you know that People magazine has named Adam Levine as their Sexiest Man Alive this year. But when your girl was fourteen-years-old, the video for "This Love" came out and I was...gulp...changed. Nevermind the witty use of "coming" in the second verse, this guy with his bandana wristband, fitted-but-still-somehow-baggy pants, disheveled raven locks, and that cocky attitude wormed his way into my soul. And how? Well he can't help how erratic he behaves! At the end of the day he's just had his little heart broken too many times. I've never been able to be a huge Maroon 5 fan simply because I can't really handle Adam Levine. Too. Much. Sigh.
Verdict: Guilty of looking too good in a red, ripped hoodie.

Love Actually is released.
This movie spans a few genres. At the heart, it's about Christmas. But it's also a romantic comedy, with a hint of drama, a dash of music, and some Colin Firth in a lake (which always makes for good cinema). But ultimately, this movie is just another reason I have unrealistic expectations. No, not all characters get a happy resolution (some get just the opposite) but even little Sam is able to bypass Heathrow security to get a goodbye kiss from Joanna the Singing Tart. There's just too much "love conquers all" in this movie to be healthy.
Verdict: One feel giftwrapped by Rowan Atkinson out of ten.

Justin Timberlake breaks everything.
I mean...

'Scuze me while I go adjust my priorities.

HEAR THIS: "Say Something" by A Great Big World feat. Christina Aguilera

I've never heard A Great Big World before but after being introduced to this duet with Christina Aguilera on BuzzFeed today I'm thinking they might be on to something here. Gotta love a the bespecaled, nerdy look à la Seth Cohen. In addition to being a pretty delightful track, Aguilera's vocal is also incredible. Free from the bravado she usually enlists, this performance is simple and clean.

The video is a little hit-ya-in-the-feels so prepare yourself. Especially the scene that reminds me of the old couple in The Notebook. You'll see what I mean.

I'm not crying, there's just a lot of dust in here...

Cover Up

I love Live Lounge (a show on BBC Radio 1) covers. They range from big arrangements to small, intimate acoustic covers. Either way, hearing these artists lend their voices and talents to songs they like is really refreshing and I hope you enjoy 'em!

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE performing "Take Care" by Drake
The first time I heard this cover was actually part of a mashup with the original Drake track and substituting Rihanna's vocal for the one here. I can easily see why they picked this song: the lyric and arrangement don't feel that far out of the Florence and the Machine repertoire.

PARAMORE performing "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon
I love this song. I haven't heard a cover of it I hated. I saw Paramore when they opened for No Doubt back in '09 and was really impressed with them and especially their lead singer Hayley Williams. This is a gentle, cosy cover which I hope you enjoy.

KINGS OF LEON performing "Dancing on my Own" by Robyn
"Dancing on my Own," is probably one of my most played songs on my iTunes. I think Robyn has such a great perspective in her songs and this one tells a fucking story. Hearing Caleb Followill belt this one out is a serious treat. Get ready to melt.

KELLY CLARKSON performing "Princess of China" by Coldplay
Yep, I love Coldplay. Even if that makes me gay. I fucking love them. So I was pretty suspicious when Miss American Idol (or I guess she's a Mrs now...) covered it. But thank our stars, it's good.

COLDPLAY performing "We Found Love by Rihanna
I said I love Coldplay, right? Well, I also love Rihanna. My roommate can attest to that. This cover actually illuminates for me why Rihanna is such a successful artist. That hook is catchier than an STI during spring break. Add a dash of Chris Martin and you got a fucking gem.

ARCTIC MONKEYS performing "Hold On, We're Going Home" by Drake
And finally the video that inspired this whole post. I'm stuuuuupid in love with the new Arctic Monkeys album AM and this cover is just getting added to the lovefest. The awkward, stumbly, two-steppin' lead singer Alex Turner commits to in this video is also kinda adorable.

And in case you were wondering, I missed you.
